He muses that the myrmecological torch might be passed on in this volume, having been wrested from his and "a few other old timers'" grasp. <em>Ant Ecology</em> synthesises knowledge from across disciplines and creates a direction for the future of ant ecology.<br /><br />We wish Ed Wilson a belated happy birthday, and wish we were at the World Science Festival to celebrate his contribution to our understanding of the natural world.
